Clinton in Philly |
Clinton and Kerry are holding a rally together right now in Philly. Clinton looks great - looks younger and more healthy than ever, except for the white hair. It's a real moment in Philly. The energy is great and this will definitely be the story tonight on the news. Good day for Kerry.

Clinton is certainly a boon — I hope he's able to put in appearances in Florida and Ohio, too. I think Gore's presence in Florida might also help things. To me, the big news was Rehnquist's thyroid cancer surgery today. The CNN political analyst, whose name escapes me, implausibly suggested that most voters don't think about the Supreme Court when they're picking a president. That seems ridiculous to me, since that's my number one issue, but if what he says is true, then Rehnquist's condition should put it more at the forefront. Lots and lots of pivotal issues hang in the balance of the next appointment to the bench. (Also: I hope Rehnquist is okay, because I do like joie de vivre he brings to the Court, if not his actual judicial leanings.)

I have to agree with the unmemorably-named CNN analyst. I don't think most voters think about the Court. At least not in this election where there are so many other important issues for one to make up one's mind about. Not that I agree - as I said in a post a few days ago, I think the Court's a huge issue here, especially given Bush's commitment to being an uber-conservative.
In 2000, I think the Court probably had more bearing (it seemed then that Rehnquist and Kennedy were just waiting for a GOP prez to retire).
