Not Gray |
Some people want Gray Davis to be the next Chair of the DNC. I can't think of a worse idea.

Gray Davis as DNC Chair? When are Dems going to stop embracing failures?
I think if you lose an election, in an embarrassing way, you're out of the inner circle. I can see keeping Gore and Kerry around. Those guys barely lost. But Davis was pathetic, and making a political failure the face of the party would be ridiculous. Just because people know his name is not a reason to give him a leadership position.
And while Gore and Kerry should stay involved, the analysts and strategists that were working behind the scenes should get the heaveho. Maybe keeping some around for the "we did it that way in the shalacking of 2004" warnings would be smart, but for the most part all they have shown was that they can orchestrate an unsuccessful number of campaigns.
This isn't to say losers shouldn't be involved. I just think that if you lose and the party is embarrassed, then you should disassociate yourself. Dean and Bill Bradley are two guys that lost, but with dignity and with the respect of the people. Keep them involved.
I don't think Dean should be the DNC chair because I don't like people who are from Vermont and I don't trust doctors, but maybe Bradley for DNC chair. He could grab his old buddy Phil Jackson as an advisor. We could run a triangle offense on the Republicans. Maybe pick up Walt Clyde Frazier too, and he could use the word "percolate" at odd moments.

Thinking of Gray Davis as DNC chair makes me have that unsteady queezy oh my Gid No feeling. Republicans already love kciking us around and this would be like personally afixing a "Kick Me" sign to our own backs.
I like Bill Bradley too. I see Phil Jackson and perhaps Jeff VanGundy. Based on his tussle with 'Zo, we know he is not afraid of a fight with a big guy and we know if he gets kicked around he will do his best to bring pain to the opponent.

I'm serious about Phil Jackson. That guy messes with other people's minds. And whether or not he is smart, he seems smart. And that would frighten the GOP.
Look, Ben Franklin once said something about playing politics like you play chess or something like that. Maybe basketball isn't chess. Maybe it's not even close. But there takes a measure of strategy to putting together a winning game plan. Especially to win championships at the NBA level. Jackson would be interesting, and at least new.
I've had enough of stale democratic strategists that had their lunch money stolen in high school. Give me the guy who held their heads in the toilet. Jackson might not have been that guy, but he is kind of a jerk.
Bring in Bradley, a fella that knows how things work in DC. He'll bring Jackson. A strategist. A guy that just likes to mess with other people. Phil will find his political version of Tex Winter, and then mess with the GOP.
Maybe Shaq would put some lines about being a Dem in his next rap album. Maybe Horace Grant would wear his goggles to the convention. The possibilities are limitless.
